I took a field trip to Omnivore Books, a San Francisco shop that specializes in both antiquarian and new books about cooking and food. Have you ever been? It is a gem of a bookstore and I’m so glad I live not too far away. Owner Celia Sack’s knowledge is astounding. She can point you in the right direction whether you’re looking for the latest cookbook or something obscure from the 17th century.
You can see in my bag I’m bringing home a copy of Fruit: A Connoisseur’s Guide and Cookbook written by Alan Davidson and illustrated by Charlotte Knox. It’s a first edition! There were many other books I wanted to buy, and I could’ve spent days flipping pages and asking Celia questions. I’ll just have to make another pilgrimage to Omnivore soon.
