Mara des Bois

Do you know about mara des bois? They are petite strawberries with all the ideal characteristics: vibrant red color, a delicate almost melting firmness, and most enticing of all, an intense fragrance like that of a perfectly ripe wild berry. I adore them.

My husband, Graham, named one of his typefaces Mara des Bois. You know, I probably shouldn’t admit this, but MdB is my favorite. I love the way the letters feel like they were born in Berkeley during an indistinguishable era (the 70s? Not quite, there’s also a modern quality). And I especially love how this font looks like nobody other than Graham could have made it. His fingerprints are all over it.
